The South Jersey Writers’ Group hosts several events on a monthly basis, and informal gatherings and special events throughout the year.

Craft & Conversation

Our Third Thursday meetings are a chance for us to catch up and connect! We have a monthly topic of discussion related to craft or business of writing. We also share our writing successes! Every Third Thursday of the month. Hybrid meeting on Zoom and at the Barrington VFW.

Guest Speakers

Guest speakers share their professional wisdom and experience on a focused topic with a group. Featured speakers are almost always virtual events, to allow more professionals to present to our group. Many thanks to Tachyon Press, whose publicity team has connected us with professionals from all areas (and genres) of the publishing industry!

Critique Groups

we offer several monthly meetups to exchange and review each others’ writing. Space is limited and time-sensitive! We are also interested in developing special interest/genre critiques.

Critique group information and RSVPs are only available to members through the Meetup Group.

Write-Ins

Join us every Monday night for a Zoom write-in! Accountability and camaraderie. We write for 25 minutes with cameras off, mics off, and then chat (and stretch!) for 5 minutes in between. From 7-9pm.

We also get out and about several times a month for write-ins at local libraries, coffee shops, and other interesting places! Find out when our next one is on our Meetup Group.

Special Events

Contests

SJWG hosts casual, writing prompt-inspired contests a few times a year. There is a small entry fee and the winner gets the pot! And in the spirit of community, fairness, and volunteerism, the winning writer gamely agrees to judge the next contest. Winning stories may be published here on the SJWG blog, or one of our anthologies, by the author’s choice!

Open Mic Nights

Members, friends, and our local writing community are invited to come share their words and their stories in an open forum, a few times a year.

Retreats

Dedicate the day to your work by meeting up with your fellow writers, setting a goal, and building some momentum. In 2021, we converted in-person retreats to virtual events. More to come!

Workshops

Occasional craft-focused workshop intensives, led by a seasoned writer, to increase your skills and try new things!
