Join us in welcoming Miranda González, who will be talking to us about writing mentorship programs.

The Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) Writer to Writer Mentorship Program runs twice a year for three months per session. They match emerging writers with published authors to work towards the mentees’ writing goals. Mentors volunteer their time, and Writer to Writer is free of charge for AWP members. To get a feel for the scope of the program, watch our video featuring perennial poetry mentor Shikha Malaviya and four of her mentees. They discuss what prompted them to participate in the program, the mentor-mentee matching process, and the importance of a shared cultural connection that allowed them to write and speak freely.

Miranda González is the director of membership at the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, where she oversees the Writer to Writer Mentorship Program along with many of AWP’s other year-round initiatives. She holds an MFA from the University of Texas at El Paso and is working on a novel about the intersection of motherhood and mental illness.
